Hydrogen is high on the agenda in the effort to decarbonize the energy system. In the EUalone, the goal is to produce 10 Mt of renewable hydrogen annually and import another10 Mt (EU, 2023). If the 10 Mt are produced based on variable renewable power generation,it equates to more than 100 GWe of required electrolyser capacity in the EU.
