During the fourth quarter of 2023, startups in the synthetic biology sector raised $1.0 billion, reflecting a decrease of $752.6 million (or 74.2%) from the previous quarter's $1.8 billion. In the same period last year, startups raised $2.6 billion, marking a decrease of $1.6 billion. For all of 2023, synthetic biology startups have raised $6.9 billion, compared to $10.0 billion for all of 2022, representing a decrease of $3.1 billion.
